Sophie Hastie

Training Officer

Sophie’s role as Training Officer is to co-ordinate the Club’s training programme and to work alongside the Diving Officer to ensure that training is of the highest standard. Sophie joined the club in 2014 and recently qualified as an Open Water Instructor. She has returned to the committee as Training Officer, having previously served as Recruitment Officer.

Most memorable dive moment: Being surrounded by reef sharks and giant trevally on a night dive in the Maldives. They were using our torch beams to hunt. It was amazing. Or maybe diving with seals on the Isles of Scilly.

Most embarrassing dive moment: Being trained to use a surface marker buoy and unclipping it from its reel by mistake. It floated away, presumably lost for ever. When we got back to the boat we were greeted with “have you lost something?”…

After a dive: Sophie enjoys chilling out with her buddies and a beer or G&T

When not diving: Sophie can usually be found talking about diving. Or knitting.

You may not know: Sophie is a very good knitter, but she hasn’t yet worked out how to combine diving and knitting!
